LASUBEB partners with ICPC to inaugurate Anti-Corruption, Transparency Unit

IN a bid to foster transparency and ensure accountability in its operations, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) on Tuesday, partnered with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to inaugurate its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) toward sensitising members of staff on ethical conduct and anti-corruption practices.

The sensitisation programme, which was held at the LASUBEB headquarters in Maryland, Lagos, brought together senior officials of the Agency, departmental heads, and other members of staff of the Board. It was an engaging and interactive session led by the representatives from ICPC.363e

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr Hakeem Shittu, emphasised the importance of institutional integrity and public trust in the delivery of basic education in the state.

"Corruption undermines development and robs our children of the qualitative education they deserve. The establishment of the ACTU is not just a procedural move, but a transformative step toward ensuring that public resources are used judiciously and for the purpose they are meant for," he said.363f

He encouraged staff to embrace transparency, due process, and accountability in all their dealings.

The Chairman of the Commission, who was represented by Mr Alex Chukwurah, the Resident Anti-corruption Commissioner, Lagos State, highlighted the role of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit as an internal mechanism, responsible for promoting good governance, ethical compliance, detecting corrupt practices, and serving as a liaison between the ICPC and the Agency.

The session featured interactive discussions on recognising corruption red flags, whistleblower protection, and the importance of integrity in public service.
