Nigerian forward wants to emulate Okocha at Bolton
Nigerian forward, Chinedu Obasi has stated that he wants to emulate legendary Super Eagles midfielder Jay-Jay Okocha exploits at Bolton Wanderers.
Obasi moved to Bolton until the end of the 2017/18 season after a successful trial with the club.
The 31-year-old striker made three appearances for Bolton’s U-23 side to help prepare him and for his debut.
In an interview with the Bolton Website, Obasi stated that he would like to emulate what Okocha did for the Championship side.
“Jay-Jay is a legend. I came here quite a long time ago to watch him, when I was about 15 or 16 with the Nigeria Under-17s national team,” Obasi said.
Bolton are currently struggling in the Championship as they are just six points above the relegation zone.
Obasi who is poised to make his debut for Bolton against Leeds United said that he hopes he can contribute to his side’s survival by scoring goals to keep them up.
He said, “I want to help the team any way I can, I love scoring goals and am looking forward to doing great things and helping the team.”
“I’ll try to do whatever I can to support the team, help the team. The most important thing is the team. We just have to make sure we stay in this league, that’s the main focus right now.”
Speaking about the possibility of a debut in from of his home supporters Obasi stated that he is excited to be part of the set up despite their relegation troubles.
He said, “Being able to play for a club that he’s been with is a big pleasure for me, “It’s a great honour to be here. I’m very delighted to be part of this great club.”
“I will need every little support that I can get because the league is new to me, but I’ll do my best.I’ll fight for every minute to make this club proud.”
Obasi is expected to make his debut for Bolton when they take on Leeds United on Friday, March 30.
He was a member of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles side to the 2005 FIFA U-20 FIFA World Cup, Obasi, made a total of 20 appearances for the Super Eagles and contributed four goals, he has played for several sides such as Lyn, Hoffenheim, Schalke, AIK and Shenzhen.
